Participant Agreement & Waiver

This Participant Agreement applies to your participation in a Pilgrim Venture walking pilgrimage. Pilgrim Venture is operated by Pathwise Ventures LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company doing business as Pilgrim Venture.

A pilgrimage is a journey we undertake together. We will spend a significant amount of time walking, traveling, eating, resting, and being together. We ask each person who joins us to take responsibility for their own experience while also remembering that they are part of a group.

This Participant Agreement sets out the practical terms of participating in a Pilgrim Venture pilgrimage. By registering for the pilgrimage, you agree to the terms below.

The Pilgrimage

A Pilgrim Venture pilgrimage is a guided walking journey. Participants should expect numerous hours of walking each day, travel between locations, changing weather and trail conditions, shared experiences with a small group, and the ordinary uncertainties that come with traveling and walking in another country.

The pilgrimage includes the elements described on the program page, including lodging, breakfasts, luggage transportation, Guide support, Pilgrim Circles, and spiritual practices. Items identified as not included on the program page are the participant's responsibility.

Your Responsibility as a Participant

You are responsible for preparing yourself for the physical and practical demands of the pilgrimage and for providing accurate information to Pilgrim Venture.

We also ask each pilgrim to take responsibility for the experience we are creating together. There will be days when someone has more to give and days when they need to receive. Part of walking together is making room for both.

We ask participants to speak up when something is needed and to pay attention to what is happening around them. We ask that participants treat one another and the Guides with care and respect. We also ask that participants respect the communities and places we travel through.

We want everyone who joins us to be able to complete the journey safely. There may be circumstances when we determine that someone is no longer able to participate safely or that continuing would not be good for the person or the group. In that situation, Pilgrim Venture may end that person's participation in the pilgrimage.

If Pilgrim Venture ends an individual's participation during the pilgrimage, no refund will be provided. The participant is responsible for any additional costs associated with leaving the pilgrimage, including transportation and lodging. We will help with the logistics where we reasonably can, but we cannot assume those costs.

Health and Readiness

This pilgrimage involves substantial walking and travel. You are responsible for determining whether you are physically and otherwise able to participate.

You agree to provide accurate and complete information requested by Pilgrim Venture regarding your health, emergency contact, and ability to participate. You agree to notify the Guides if circumstances arise before or during the pilgrimage that may affect your ability to participate safely.

A Health & Readiness Form is part of the registration process. Providing this information does not transfer responsibility for your health or medical care to Pilgrim Venture.

Pilgrim Venture does not provide medical care. Participants are responsible for their own medications, medical needs, and medical expenses.

Travel and Insurance

Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for airfare to and from Europe and transportation to and from the beginning and end of the pilgrimage, except where specifically stated otherwise in the program information.

Travel insurance is required for participation. Participants are responsible for obtaining appropriate travel insurance before the pilgrimage and are encouraged to ensure that their coverage is adequate for international travel, medical care, emergency transportation, trip interruption, and other circumstances relevant to their journey.

Risks of Participation

Walking pilgrimage and international travel involve risks that cannot be completely eliminated.

These may include, among other things, falls, uneven or slippery surfaces, physical exhaustion, dehydration, illness, injury, changing weather, traffic and road crossings, transportation accidents, food or water-related illness, allergic reactions, loss or theft of personal belongings, and other risks associated with walking and traveling.

There are also risks associated with being away from home and participating in activities in unfamiliar places. Serious injury or death, while unlikely, are possible risks of travel and participation in a walking pilgrimage.

By participating, you acknowledge that you have considered these risks and are choosing to participate voluntarily.

Emergency Situations

If an emergency occurs, Pilgrim Venture and its Guides may take reasonable steps to obtain emergency assistance or medical care for a participant.

Participants understand that emergency response and medical care may occur in another country and may involve costs for which the participant is responsible. Pilgrim Venture does not guarantee the availability, quality, or outcome of medical or emergency services.

Changes or Cancellation by Pilgrim Venture

Pilgrim Venture intends to operate the pilgrimage substantially as described in the program information. Circumstances outside Pilgrim Venture's control may nevertheless require the pilgrimage to be changed or cancelled for the safety of the group.

These circumstances may include severe weather, trail or route conditions, illness, travel disruptions, government restrictions, natural disasters, or other circumstances that make the pilgrimage unsafe or impracticable to operate.

If Pilgrim Venture cancels the pilgrimage, the cancellation and refund provisions published for that particular pilgrimage will apply.

Payment and Cancellation

I have reviewed the cost, payment schedule, cancellation policy, and included and excluded items published for this pilgrimage.

I understand that the $500 registration deposit is non-refundable and that additional cancellation deadlines and refund provisions apply as described on the pilgrimage program page.

I understand that cancellation policies apply to my registration even if I am unable to participate because of illness, injury, travel disruption, or another personal circumstance, except where otherwise provided by Pilgrim Venture in writing.

Assumption of Risk and Waiver

I understand that participation in this pilgrimage is voluntary and that I am choosing to participate with knowledge of the risks described in this agreement.

I understand that Pilgrim Venture cannot guarantee my safety or prevent every injury, illness, loss, or other adverse event that may occur during travel or participation.

I accept responsibility for the ordinary risks associated with the pilgrimage, including those associated with walking, travel, transportation, lodging, food and drink, weather, and participation in activities away from home.

I understand that this agreement does not eliminate any rights or protections that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
